Zoning Update #7

The "staff" has completed a new draft of the Johnson County zoning rules based on the commission decisions after the public meetings. It's posted at www.olddrum.net/zoning, along with the transcribed comments from the three public meetings. The zoning maps are also available; they're large so I only posted a link to the website where they're displayed.

If you're opposed to this zoning attempt, write me at liberty@olddrum.net and I'll see about getting you in touch with the "No Zoning" organization to be established. The opposition will be looking for money (naturally), sign locations, letter writers and people to talk to groups and stir up folks at coffee. Oh, and feel free to comment on the blog.

Zoning update #6

The public meetings are upon us, starting Monday AM. See Olddrum.net for the schedule. I've also posted the most recent versions of the zoning rules and county plan, as well as adding a page about zoning horror stories (additional stories are welcome).

The zoning chair & vice-chair will be on KOKO magazine Monday A.M., probably starting at 8:30, to promote the meeting.

A few FAQ's on this plan:
+ The zoning commission is to be elected.
+ Agricultural activities are completely unregulated (including megafarms - the state "takes care" of that).
+ If you have more than 8 dogs and/or cats other than pets or hunting dogs & are selling them, you're a kennel and that's not Ag, that's commercial.

More later.

Zoning Update #5

The zoning plan is getting ready to go public. Meetings start on Monday, 12/8,and we don't have a finished product to show them. Also, it's not available on-line anywhere yet. I asked again for info in electronic format so I could post it - we will see. If at tomorrow's meeting they can't promise it the next day, I will hand them a request under the Sunshine Law. In that case, I'll ask for all files relating to the P&Z efforts thus far, excluding graphic files & maps.

Better get to work writing out what I want and what my questions are.
